ACT After-School Classes

Offered in the fall and spring and complementing the local school calendar, these classes are once per week, after school. Classes are offered according to age range, and vary in content depending on the session. Classes always conclude with a final celebratory performance for friends and family! All ACT classes are taught in a lively, nurturing, fun environment by professional teaching artists who are passionate and skilled at working with young performers.

Spring Class: Drama Kids (ages 5-6)

Welcome to the excitement and fun of theatre! In this class, students will play with their favorite stories and picture books, growing artistically and socially as they explore the world of theatre through creative and collaborative play. This class is designed for beginning readers and theatre newbies and will end with a celebratory performance for family and friends.

Spring Class: Storybook Adventures (ages 6-7)

With picture books serving as a springboard, students have the opportunity to develop fundamental acting skills while working as a team to bring stories from the page to the stage! Students will be led through role playing, movement, improvisation, character creation, and theatre games to encourage and unleash their imagination, as well as build basic theatre skills. With new content each session, this is a great class for returning students. The class will end with a celebratory performance for family and friends.

Spring Class: Take the Stage (ages 8-11)

This class will focus on the performance of a fun, ensemble-based scene from an existing play.  Students will create characters, explore plot, and develop a presence onstage, all within the world of the play.  Take the Stage provides students with the creative tools to build the essentials of acting, as well as emphasizing teamwork and collaboration. The class will end with a celebratory performance for family and friends.

Spring Class: Improv I (ages 9-13)

When it comes to theatre, improvisation is the art of acting without a prepared script. This class will focus on fun, physical, and inspiring improvisational exercises designed to help the young actor react truthfully onstage. This is a wonderful class for the creative kid in your family. We’ll be working on our feet, so get ready to have some fun! The class will end with a celebratory performance for family and friends.

Spring Class: Acting (ages 12+)

This class will provide students with a fun, constructive environment in which to focus on acting and character development through a series of exercises, techniques, and improvisation.  Students will also spend time rehearsing scenes and monologues, as well developing strong audition techniques.  Students in this class will also have the opportunity to prepare an audition for ACT’s summer production. The class will end with a celebratory performance for family and friends.

Spring Class: Musical Theatre (ages 12+)

Like to sing and dance…at the same time?  This class will allow students hands-on experience bringing stories from the page to the stage through music, movement, and storytelling. Students will perform in musical theatre numbers- from classic to contemporary- to be shared at the end of the session!

Spring Break Camp (ages 8-13)

Looking for something fun to do over spring break? This camp will be a whole week of theatre games, improvisation, music and character work for young performers. Students will explore a play and their imaginations to create characters and understand the basics of acting.
