Kind Lady, 1948 / Blithe Spirit, 1947

In 1947, seven plucky actors rented a hall to put on a play in San Luis Obispo. They didn’t know if anyone would come, but when the curtain rose that night, there was an audience. And when the curtain fell, applause filled the hall.

No one dreamed that such a small beginning would lead to more than 900 productions staged by the San Luis Obispo Little Theatre over the past seven decades. We are proud to be one of the oldest continuously running non-profit theatres in the nation. During the 2015-2016 Season, over 23,000 people came through our doors to enjoy 200+ professional quality performances. All shows played to an average 94% capacity audience with over 100 performances completely sold-out.

The Little Theatre is dedicated to providing year-round professional-quality entertainment for our community and its visitors. We believe that the live theatre experience brings richness and texture into the life of a community, and we take our responsibility to create these experiences very seriously.  Through the generosity of the City of San Luis Obispo, we’ve enjoyed our current location, the former SLO County Public Library in the heart of downtown SLO, since 1993. The Little Theatre is also the home of our acclaimed Academy of Creative Theatre, helping young performers develop life-long theatrical skills and build self-esteem while having fun.
